The Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan: Eliminating racism in the workplace, led by ADSS Cymru and commissioned by the Welsh Government, aims to tackle racism within the social care workforce.
With over 84,000 people employed in social care across Wales, this initiative highlights the lived experiences of ethnic minority staff through a survey, in-depth conversations, and local authority data. The project identifies key challenges, including workplace microaggressions, overt discrimination, and gaps in existing policies, while advocating for a zero-tolerance approach to racism.
Focused on meaningful change, the plan outlines actions such as mandatory cultural awareness training, improved reporting procedures, and embedding anti-racist principles in service delivery. By working collaboratively with local authorities, care providers, and national organizations, this initiative seeks to foster an inclusive, equitable workplace for all social care workers and the communities they support.
